After Karnataka Police took action against users of the bicycle-taxi app - Rapido by seizing more than 120 motorcycles, the Pune RTO did the same. The RTO team seized up to 65 motorcycles after receiving complaints. The autorickshaw organization has filed a complaint against the two wheels used to carry passengers using the Rapido bike taxi app.

The RTO team seized up to 65 motorcycles in various parts of the city. Regional Transport Officer Ajit Shinde also assured the autorickshaw association that the campaign would continue in the future. Shinde also urged passengers not to use unsafe and illegal motorcycles to travel.
Pune RTO seized motorcycles a few days after Karnataka police took similar steps. In Bengaluru, Karnataka, two 120-wheelers registered under the Rapido app were seized in just four hours.
The Rapido ride-hailing app allows motorcycle owners to use them as a taxi. However, according to the rules, it is illegal and one cannot use a private car as a taxi. The government provides yellow registration plates that can be used for sale. Authorities impose a different tax on such registrations and even insurance is different. That is the same reason given by the RTO and the police department.
Police and authorities protested against Rapido bicycles after autorickshaw unions protested the application. The dispute between autorickshaw riders and cyclists took a turn for the worse when the former protesters staged a mass protest against the use of bicycle taxis in Bengaluru.
Autorickshaw drivers say that if whiteboard bicycle taxis are allowed to travel on the roads, they should also be allowed with whiteboards. Because of their highly competitive transportation costs, cyclists like Rapido offer greater competition to autorickshaw drivers, who claim to have lost much of their income as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic.
In Pune again, authorities acted only after the autorickshaw union filed a complaint against Rapido's ride.
Expressing his disappointment at the incident, Pavan Guntupalli, its founder, Rapido, said cyclists were being harassed for no apparent reason because autorickshaw drivers were protesting against a taxi race. He confirmed that Rapido is a law-abiding company and operates within the scope of the law, and is a general taxpayer in every region where it is located.
